Salary/Compensation Statement:

  • Lane Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Required QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education:
Associate’s Degree or equivalent with coursework in media, marketing, business or related.

Required Experience:
Five (5) years progressively responsible experience in media sales, non-profit development or related field.

Licensure or Certification Requirements
Oregon driver’s license.

Position Purpose:
KLCC public media in Eugene is seeking a forward-thinking Director of Business Development to lead our underwriting team. You will implement systems to maximize business support for local public media through high level customer service, organization and innovation. This position will prospect, service and grow accounts for the most listened-to radio station in the region as well as KLCC’s growing portfolio of digital products and public events.

Essential Functions:
  • Create rate structures and inventory management systems to maximize the value of KLCC broadcast and digital assets.
  • Manage KLCC Account Representatives and implement effective sales strategies and client service techniques.
  • Monitor underwriting credit language for compliance with FCC guidelines and KLCC standards.
  • Implement and maintain contact management techniques for client retention.
  • Oversee sponsorship revenue related to KLCC events.
  • Service house client portfolio and advise on effective broadcast and digital schedules.
  • Monitor performance metrics to identify areas of opportunity and improvement.
  • Network with media sponsorship colleagues to stay current with industry trends.
  • Work with membership, philanthropy and programming to create promotional campaigns, barter agreements and similar arrangements.
  • Identify and build relationships with the business community to generate support for KLCC initiatives, including broadcast, digital services and events.
  • Generate leads, contact customers, create proposals, complete account-related paperwork including contracts and reports.
  • Manage contracts and track client interactions in an organized manner.
  • Create compelling marketing materials to present KLCC underwriting opportunities.
  • Monitor inventory and maintain rate integrity.
  • Assist with billing and oversee account collections.
  • Apply problem-solving strategies and resolve dynamic situations in a productive and professional manner.
  • Professionally represent the radio station and college to civic and trade organizations, underwriters and listeners ensuring the presentation reflects station broadcasts and values, college mission, FCC guidelines and community involvement.
  • Participate in staff meetings and other assigned station activities; follow college and division policies and procedures.
  • Assist with production of KLCC promotions, events and fundraisers.

Supervision Statement:
Works under the general supervision of the General Manager. Work is performed independently according to established policies, rules and regulations. Work is reviewed periodically for results achieved through feedback from customers and the department’s revenue record.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:
The Director of Business Development primarily works in an office environment. The position occasionally requires external visits to meet with clients or to support KLCC promotions and events. Requires ability to work with office equipment such as phones, computers and copy machines. This position requires that an employee is able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time and lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
